Does Anyone Taking Lyrica Have Memory Loss? (Page 12) (Top voted first)
UpdatedI have been on Lyrica for about 8 months now and I am having fantastic results. My dr is trying to increase my dosage and I have been doing it in 50 mg increments. I am up 100 more now in a month, for a total dosage of 400mg. I find that I have very bad recall and loss of my vocabulary during conversation. It eventually goes away, but I was wondering if anyone else has this? If it keeps up, I just may have to drop back down 50mg until I get used to it? That seemed to work that last time I had to raise it.BTW, I have nerve pain in my ribcage. (not caused by shingles)
my Doc tried me on Lyrica for my Fibromyalgia and multiple issues with my back. It worked for a while until about 2 months in I woke up one morning and decided my family would be better off with me dead so they could collect Life ins. policy. Wow, was that a glass of cold water in my face! I have been through quite a bit of hard times in my life but never did I ever consider suicide until this horrific drug! I now control the pain(to a degree) with Percocet and Vicodin. It depends on pain level which one I take. Oh and by the way, thanks so much to Lyrica for the extra 25 lbs i did not need! Be very careful with this drug.
That is how my memory loss started, please contact your doctor about it, if it remains tolerable you will have to decide if it is worth it for you. It is a SERIOUS side effect of Lyrica. But you need to track the progress, it may get worse the longer you take the meds. and may take twice as long for your memory to repair itself. I got lost driving Home from work at the end of my time on Lyrica, it was not worth it.
Has anybody had any success with acupuncture helping to relieve at least some level of pain from both Fibromyalgia and multiple back issues? I tried the Lyrica, horrible, and a few other meds. The only meds somewhat helping are the pain meds. Specifically more the Percocet. But people are recommending therapy and the acupuncture along with some swimming. Has this really helped anyone out there? Also I have spinal stenosis, bulging discs and sciatica. I am being told surgery is not a guarranty to help these conditions either! Any thoughts folks? I appreciate any input. Thanks
On all the information you receive from the pharmacy it tells you that the maximum dosage of lyrica you should take a day is 600 mg. 900 is way too much
Hi Bel , have not tried accupuncture , but i very highly recomend a Myothereapist ( Muscle therapist ) for fibromyalgia , it really gave my son great and lasting relief , Oestopaths are pretty good , but Physiotherapists and Chiropractors are just expensive time wasters . Good luck .
Hey Nick,
Thanks for your advice! I will def look into that. I am so tired of just relying on pain meds that don't even always work.
I am off Lyrica, because my legs and feet had swelled up to a point I had what is called 'PITTING EDEMA" as a nurse I made an educated decision to discontinue the medication. I went to my Primary Care Physician, and reported what I had experienced and she did not care, she told me to go back to the pain clinic. I decided not to go back to the pain clinic, because I feel they are using us as Guinea Pigs. First of all these are not pain medications they are either for depression, or seizures . I have neither of those symptom my doctor had the nerve to try to use a urine test against me , due I decided to try Marijuana which was helpful. I saw her last week and when she brought it up. I asked her how does Marijuana interact with pain medication. She tried to avoid my question , finally she said "it does not" at which point she then began to say I was med seeking. What she did not know is I was taping the conversation. I had been sent back to her by the pain clinic, with a recommendation to restart 2 hydrocodone daily, and I knew she was going to say I was med seeking. Many times Doctors don't expect you to fight them back, so they think it's just you, and them in that exam room, and they talk to you like s***. Then go write whatever they like. Anyway Off the Lyrica guy's I have a Tens unit that was given to me for my lower back pain, and decided to place the pads in the area I have Fibromyalgia and I am happy to report it really worked. I believe these dam Doctors are getting kick backs from putting us on all the crazy medication's. And anyone who had been receiving narcotics before now, the Doctors are placing the blame on you now that " He/she is a med seeker" to cover their own butts. Think about it you were receiving those medication from your doctor's no one asked for them, but when the medical board came down on Doctor's for over prescribing Narcotics they decided to blame the patients.. I am voting for medical Marijuana this year in our state. it is a shame what they are doing to pain patients. I ask that you all fight back next time you go to Doctors office record the meeting. I used the recorder on my cell phone, because soon as you say this s*** is not working then the gleam in their eyes are you are med seeking, she told me to just take the Lyrica, because the benefit was to be outta pain, but no my memory is returning and I don't have swollen legs and feet, and actually lost 20 lbs from not taking it.
You will find that only some of your memory will return after you stop takeing Lyrica and it will be a very gradual process over many years but most likely you will never get back fully what you had..
YES!!! I'm sorry you are having problems, but I am relieved to hear that other people have the same side effect. I only take 50mg a day, but I also have a morphine pump. It is just a side effect I will have to live with though because I had the same problem with Neurontin and it was brutal in other ways too. I will never go back to it.
There is a spray caled Biotene Moisturizing Mouth Spray. It is over the counter and you spray it directly into your mouth and is safe to swallow. No swish and spit or swallow. It's lasts a pretty long time. I used to carry a water bottle around with me everywhere I went and god forbid if I ran into someone I knew while I was out and didn't have my water bottle of mints to suck on. I would be doomed. I would have to cut my conversation short. The spray container is small and it fits right in my pocketbook. When I take it out and spray it, nobody really asks any questions.
That is exactly what happened to me. I watched a film and kept thinking "I recognise this bit" and couldn't remember what happened next. I had watched it 3 wks before! That was the last straw as my memory is now appalling, I muddle words, I cannot remember words, I can't finish a sentence - all the things you are all saying on here - and I was only on 75mg/day for a few months. I rang the GP and said I think it is causing memory problems and am worried I will get fired from my new job, but it was too late, I got fired. Would be interested to know if these side effects are general known about.
I took a lyrica class prescription (neurontin) and forgot where I put my opiates.
Lyrica is a horrible drug with very devastating results. I too was on lyrica for a few years for fibromyalgia. It helped with the pain but killed my memory. It is a terrible drug to wean off of; if you can use anything that will help with less side effects please talk to your Dr. about it. It causes liver damage but few Drs. tell you about the side effects. It is very bad for anyone who has trouble with their kidneys as it can cause renal failure. Causes memory loss, fatigue, swelling of the legs and face as was my case....weight gain, headaches and other side effects too numerous to list.
Lesson here is that we all need to be very proactive with our own health. Ask lots of questions and read all of the literature that your local pharmacist attaches with your prescriptions. Good luck to all....
I too was in Lyrica hell. I was taking Gabapentin but had maxed out on dosage, and wasn't getting pain relief. I take it for neuoropathy in my feet and hands and stomach. I worked up from 1 Lyrica a day and knew I felt weird after a couple of weeks, then when I moved to two a day - .... my left went to hell. I almost lost my job. I could barely form a sentence, could barely remember how to get to work let alone how to do my job. I was mean and hateful and when I wasn't I was sobbing and suicidal.
I tried to fake it for a couple of weeks but I finally fell apart and sat at work like a slack jawed idiot for a couple of days and finally asked a friend to help me find out what was wrong with me. She looked up Lyrica and recommended I call my Dr. and tell him what was going on.
He switched me back to Gaba immediately. I'm not going through a small bit of withdrawal, twitchy and anxiety, but it's so much better than I was.
The problem is that Lyrica almost completely eradicated the pain in my feet and hands. I don't want to start anything like this again, so where do I go?
Wow! He started you off on 350 mg a day!! No wonder you are experiencing all those symptoms!!!
I have severe joint pain in my back and Fibromyalgia, so I started at 1-75 mg, twice a day a few years ago. Then, she upped it a couple of year ago, so now I take 2-75 mg. twice a day.
Come off it and then read all these posts!
this made me LOL!!!! Thank you
Pain in your ribcage? Have you had an MRI of your spine? My mom had the same problem for YEARS..turned out she actually had cracked vertebra in her back. All of her pain was from her spine but she was feeling in the front. At one point they even performed exploratory surgery on her stomach..cut her sternum to pelvic region looking for God knows what...4 doc's later figured it was her back and the MRI showed a crack in her bone. Good luck!

So, I've finally had time to sit and read most of this thread and you're all telling me that my memory may not return to full?
I'm about to lose my job now :( I can barely remember what I'm doing at work, I can do something and in an hour not even remember that I did it. I can't remember simple instructions either. People call me and say "we talked yesterday" and I don't remember the conversation with out really great prompting.
I'm too young for this. :( I'm 47.
Do you know if the Lyrica causes any eye problems? I just saw my eye doctor for new glasses and he tells me I have edema (swelling), in my eyes. Part of what's wrong is due to diabetes though... so.
Anyway, I'm back on the gabapentin, and it does nothing for my pain not like the Lyrica does. I suppose I could try for a disability claim and go back on the Lyrica and go back to being a blank slate and just let my fiance take care of me for the rest of my life :(
