Dextroamp-amphet Er 20 Mg Or Dexedrine ? (Top voted first)
UpdatedI have been taking Adderall IR (Barr) 2 - 20mg 2x a day 80mg total per day for the past 3 yrs. My Doctor changed it to Dextroamp-Amphet ER 20 Mg caps same dosage 80mg total per day. I've been getting constant headaches, neck pain, I'm falling asleep in the middle of the day. I heard a lot about Dexedrine and how it acts the same as Adderall with out these side effects? If so, should i ask my doctor ? Would the same dosage work for me?

My daughter is 16 years and she is autistic and very aggressive. Doctor prescribed Zoloft 25 mg to calm her down. I studied that Zoloft has a lot of side effects and birth defects, so I want to change her medication to Dextroamp-Amphet ER. Please advise me. Most of the time she is very happy and calm, only when she gets upset she breaks everything. It happens once or twice a week. She is very hyper, please advise me.
Thank you!
try one of the brands other than Barr/Teva. Their ER capsules suck. They have the same effect as valium for most people I know. I take 80mg DEX ER per day. I use Mallinckrodt version and it's a totally different effect. None of the amped up feeling from the Levo in Adderall. But a nice clean alert feeling with a great increase in focus. I've only been treated for ADD for a year and half. But without the meds I amaze myself at just how stupid I am. LOL
The active drug in dexedrine is dextro-amphetamine. Indeed, it is a much cleaner medication with fewer side effects for most people than adderall, which contains 75% dextro and 25% levo-amphetamine. I would say that the levo-amphetamine in adderall adds a speedy, anxious, sweaty effect, with no enhancement of mental clarity and focus. 60mg of dextroamphetamine per day would be the equivalent of 80mg of adderall per day, minus the speedy anxiety.
Finally! I very much appreciate your response. It's so difficult trying to figure out which of the generics is the most effective. So far, I've seen Avantis, Barr/Teva and Mallinckrodt referred to here and I haven't been able to find images of any of them. No info on Avantis found, but the Adderall XR generic manufactured by Avantis has been described as ineffective garbage elsewhere.
Thanks again!
I am adult and just got my prescription for dex amp er 20 mg this morning....first time taking anything for concentration.....I could slightly feel I had taken something but then a few hours later I was very tired...and now my head feels like its about to bust. Could any of this be the meds??
There is no medication that actually works without side effects, some people are just fortunate and don't experience them.
How long have you been taking the new formulation that's time released?

It may simply be a matter of your body needing to get used to it.
