The length of time that Suboxone should be used is dependent on how severe a person's addiction was, before they started treatment.
In addition, Suboxone itself contains a narcotic, Buprenorphine and should not be stopped abruptly, to enable a person to become drug free, it has to be slowly tapered down in its dosage.
This is why it can only be prescribed by doctors that have undergone special training in its use for addiction treatment.
For some people, it can be done in as little as a few months, however, for others it can take 2 years.
