Folks who have problems are quick to get on a site like this one. I would like to hear from some folks who have not had any problems and are satisfied with the medicine. Also, what % of folks have serious side effects. ## I would like to hear from folks who have had a relatively side effect free experience with Eliquis. The only folks who get on sites like this are those who have a complaint. Isn't their anyone out there who had a terrible free or close to trouble free experience? ## Eliquis now in second month no issues. Have taken xarelto for more than a year also pradaxa for two years no issue with any blood thinners over last five years ## i had rectal bleeding w/pradaxa w/in 2 days but i have been taking eliquis since the end of April w/no problems at all. nevertheless plan to ...

Started Xarelto a year ago after blood clots after breast cancer surgery. Having surgery again in a week and was taken off xarelto until after surgery. I am now scared to be off this drug. Do I need to be scared of new clots even before surgery? ## Hi there, I've been on Xarelto for three years after having a stroke while in AFIB. Whenever I have a surgery (colonoscopy and total knee replacement) my doctor either puts me on an injectable two days prior or just stop taking it a day before the procedure. By all means speak to your doctor and express your concerns. ## How many days before dental surgery should I stop taking Xarelto 20 mg and how soon should I start again?

My Mother having the medicine Novastat cv 10 once in a day (at night). Her dentist advise her to stop this medicine for couple of days before and after pull of a wisdom tooth as there would be possibility of non stop bleeding. Please advise if she can stop for few days or any alternate options. ## She should follow her dentist's instructions for the best outcome, and for her own safety. The dentist is correct that this medication can create an increased risk of bleeding, since it contains Clopidogrel, with Rosuvastatin, the former of which is a blood thinner that prevents clotting. Is she on any other medications?

I've been on Xarelto for 6 months for a dvt and after neck surgery, was told to stop today, but I didn't ask why and wasn't told if I needed to watch for any problems from here on in. Is there a chance of issues by not taking it anymore? ## There are some risks, such as the possibility of rebound clots and the subsequent health problems they could cause, according to FDA reports, but it is always best to follow your doctor's instructions. Are you on any other medications? ## Hi I’m back after writing about the Xarelto medication I have been on for about 8 weeks, for PE 2 large clots and many small ones, There were no side effects when I was on 15mg twice a day and after Three weeks 20mg, I have experienced dizziness ,headaches,Tinnitus, and more recently painful kne...

I am in A Fib and have been for the past 7 months. My Doctor has tried different procedures but so far nothing has worked. Ever since I have been on Pradaxa I have been very short of breath. Even in a sitting position I am short of breath. I did not have this problem before. I don't know it it's the A fib or the Pradaxa, My Doctor doesn't know what is causing the problem. They have done a lot of testing. Has anyone had the same problem? ## We have had other people report such a problem, when taking similar medications, however, there is no way for us to really know if it is being caused by your medical condition, or the medication. Have you seen a cardiologist? They would probably be the most qualified to get to the root of the problem. ## I'm in a similar situation ... ...

I have been on 20 mg of Xarelto for about 2 weeks after a week of 30 mg. I have developed pain in my lower jaw. I have seen my dentist who took X-Rays and probed the area. Nothing wrong with my teeth or jaw. Has anyone else experienced this? One of the less common side effects noted on websites is toothache. ## Xarelto has been known to cause joint pain, in some people that take it, as a side effect, and if that is the case, that could also be causing the pain you're describing as a toothache. I have a disorder in my jaw joints called TMJ, and when it acts up, the pain is quite horrible, and I will often feel like I have a toothache, even though I no longer have any teeth to ache, because I have dentures. How are you doing, now? Has there been any change, since your body has adjuste...

I have been taking Xarelto 15mg x2/day for almost 3 weeks and will go onto 20mg/day next week for the remainder of 3 months. I had a lower leg blood clot almost 3 wks ago. I have experienced some itching of my lower and upper legs and wonder whether it is something to worry about. I had thought that maybe the symptoms may relax when I go onto the lower dose. I chose Xeralto over Warfarin for the convenience of less blood checks and think I would prefer to remain on it. I have been unable to get through to the clinic or to speak to my doctor so will probably have to make an appointment but thought I would ask here and see if there was any advice available. I have also started with itching to one of my eyes yesterday though this may be due to a new cleanser which I have stopped using. Has...

Anyone have Spinal Stenosis and taking this anticoagulant? I have been on it for 4 years now and have never felt right now the symptoms of the stenosis are much worse. Burning sensations in Good of fingers. Feet burning. Back of neck feels like boiling water has been poured down it. Sleep is very disturbed. Passing loads of urine. She changed despite scan showing all is well. Feeling very hot when it's minus 5. Tinnitus. These are just a few symptoms and I am not a hypochondriac they are very real temperature is 37.4. Bloods were only recently done as I had to beg for them I am told they are all within normal limits. ## MedlinePlus does warn that Spinal Stenosis can worsen, over time, so your symptoms might just be do to that, rather than the Eliquis. There are several other resourc...

I want to quit warfarin due to potential and actual bleeding . Had a two day nose bleed and still going. I was given warfarin because of afib. since then ( 9 months ) i have controlled my afib pretty well. I will see my doctor soon to get his input but wondering if I will experience any rebound or withdrawal effect ? I am also on lisinopril and Amdolopine will it affect these meds if and when I quit warfarin.. ## There can be a slight rebound if you suddenly stop taking any medication, including Warfarin, which is why it's very important to never stop taking something, without your doctor's approval and supervision. It likely should not affect your other medications. You can read more about this medication on MedlinePlus. What have you done for the nosebleed? Did you go to the E...

I'm s/p stroke and taking plavix. Can I take flexeril for my back pain? ## Hello, Gigi! How are you? I didn't find any problems or interactions listed between them, but with your medical history, I wouldn't suggest taking the Flexeril unless your doctor has said it is safe for you to do so. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache and dry mouth. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I just read on google not to take Flexaril and plavix too many dangerous side effects!

My mom was switched from Xarelto to Eliquis (2.5mg x 2 daily) 4 days ago. Since then, she has experienced itchy eyes, runny nose, trouble sleeping and heavy phlegm at night. Is there a connection? Or is it a cold? ## Hello, Jack! How is your mom doing? Yes, the FDA does list those as being possible side effects of Eliquis, she may also experience nausea, dizziness, headache, and easy bruising. That's not to say she may not also have a cold, though. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I just switched also 2 weeks ago and having the very same side effects. ## Thanks, Verwon. Since then, the symptoms have gone away. Her MD mentioned it could be just transitional. ## Hi Janet, I hope your feeling better. My mom's symptoms seem to have passed. Best to you, Jack. ## What can yo...

I've been taking Eliquis for 6 months I have lost any energy I might have had I had a rash on both arms and my hair has just started falling out my doctor says I am on nothing that would cause this ## Hello, Robert! How are you? Actually, both the NIH and the FDA lists everything you've mentioned as being possible side effects of this medication. You may also experience nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding, and easy bruising. Sadly, doctor's don't always know all the possible side effects of most medications, because they do not study such information as much as a pharmacist, and some others in various medical fields. What type of doctor are you seeing? Is it a specialist, or just a regular PCP? ## I'm seeing a heart specialist because I had AFib I...

I have been on Eliquis for 4 months. I have had several blood tests and have not bled afterwards and I had no bruising at all. I have always bruised after blood tests. I am very concerned. Has anyone else had this experience? ## I've been on it for just over a month and I'm the same - no bleeding or bruising at all. ## Same here in the beginning. But 9 months in i now bruise very easily ## Hello tomline618, As much as I want to say that it's because you had extremely skilled medical professionals working on your blood tests it seems that this is fairly common in the early stages of administering Eliquis. Other users on the website have had similar experiences and say that from 6 months forward it typically the bruising gets worse. If you get past that point and you are still...

Drinking on Eliquis can cause bleeding, is drinking five or six drinks in one night worse than drinking one drink, every night? ## can you have an occasional drink while on eliquis? ## @John and Sandi, According to drug interaction reports from two different webpages, including umm.edu, there are no drug interactions listed between Alcohol and Eliquis (apixaban). That said, if you are concerned about any potential discrepancies, I would encourage you to contact your doctor first in order to make the most informed decision about having alcohol. However in my opinion, using proper judgement for moderation and responsible consumption are always important factors whether you're drinking alcohol by itself or with any meds. I hope this helps! ## Eliquis a blood thinner is a "NARROW TH...

I am 36 years old with PE, multiple clots in both lungs, blockage to right valve of heart and DVT in left leg. I have no medical issues ever. My PE was diagnosed 3 weeks ago. My doctor put me on Xarelto. I am still on the 21 day, 15mg, 2x a day. I am lethargic, vomiting, severe night sweating, dizziness, blood in my stool, insane MIGRAINES and back aches. The bleeding side effects have landed me in the ER, 3x already. I really cant qualify which side effect is hitting me the worst. On top of it all this drug costs $316 a month and I am uninsured but employed. My financial status and insurance disqualify me for the free Xarelto plans. My doctors really believe this drug will most effectively and conveniently dissolve my clots. Can you offer a solution for free or discount Xarelto RX? Wil...

I was put on Xarelto 12 days ago, one 20mg pill per day for afib. Within 48 hours I started noticing lower back pain that's become progressively worse. Never having taken a blood thinner like this before, I'd like to know if anyone else has had this side effect with Xarelto, and if so, does it eventually go away as your body gets used to the medication? The last couple of days I can barely walk at times. If this is a permanent effect I can't stay on this med and function. I have no other side effects and wouldn't even know I was taking it otherwise. I do feel a lot better on it than not, which is why I hope this is temporary. ## Yes, it has been known to cause joint/muscle aches as side effects, according to FDA and user reports, along with nausea, dizziness, headache, i...

I have been on Xarelto for about a month and my weight went up 25 to 30 lbs. Before I was on Xarelto I was taking Warfin and I was gaining any extra weight. I haven't been prescripted nor taken any other medications then the medications that has prescripted to me. I would like to know is there anyone else having this problem. ## Hi Tammy, Even though weight gain is not actually listed as being a possible side effect, I've actually been seeing quite a few posts from other individuals tracing it back to Xarelto as well. Unfortunately I find that in these types of cases, it seems like the only other options are to make more drastic changes to your diet; exercise harder/longer; or just stop taking what's triggering it to begin with. If you don't want to go that route, you ca...

I've been on xarelto for 2 months following dvt in my leg. I take 20 mg a day. In addition to almost constant headaches I now feel faint, tired, and my pinky finger feels numb. I really do not feel well. I would like to switch to Coumadin which I took many years ago after my first dvt and pe. Any one else experience similar symptoms? ## Hello, Jojo! How are you? Yes, many people have experience such side effects from Xarelto and they are listed among those that are commonly expected by the FDA. You may also experience joint/muscle aches, increased risk of bleeding and easy bruising. However, Coumadin risks causing very similar side effects, plus it requires the regular INR testing, which you don't have to do with Xarelto.
