Big Pharma's Lockdown On Legitimate Chronic Pain Patients (Page 73) (Top voted first)
UpdatedIs narcotic pain medicine becoming a thing of the past?
Why are doctors across America phasing out the practice of prescribing effective pain medication?
Will big pharmaceutical companies ever truly understand what it's like to face the other side of the coin?
Lately there's been a musty scent in the air surrounding the use of prescribed narcotic pain medication. Many doctors appear to be running scared as the DEA scours through fields of medical records, inspecting prescribing pads like a mouse scavenges for food in a dimly lit cellar.
Should the day come when doctors recommend Ibuprofen to a feeble man who's been involved in a terrible car accident (breaking several bones / requiring extensive surgery), is this doctor at risk of malpractice when there are more effective options available that they choose not to pick, out of fear? Fear of what? Doing the right thing? No, I don't think this is the reason... Somewhere along the line, in the not too distant past, doctors were loosely prescribing narcotic pain medication as if it would never go out of style. Nowadays, the harsh penalty of potentially losing their license for writing any unknown number of opiate prescriptions over so many calendar days or some other form of strict criteria, has been enough to prevent many physicians from taking even subtle "risks" with patients who are expressing obvious signs of pain and discomfort.
The unfortunately unique problem with pain is that it's not a physical object and in order for others to detect it, they'd have to rely solely on the backbone of our body language using their intuition - something that's gone missing in western practice. If more doctors took the time and really got to know their patients front to back, then they will be their own best judge of deciding what the right thing to do is, regardless of what the DEA thinks about their decision or what their drug representative wants out of the deal. Sadly, until patients are put before profits, the foundation of America's healthcare system remains in jeopardy like an iceberg affected by global warming.
While I believe that the vast majority of human beings in their right mind would choose to do the right thing, we must all work together to become the change we wish to see within every aspect of our lives; and knowing that by doing so, it will shine light on those crossing our path that need it most.
In the meantime, some patients may have to find another way to manage their pain without putting their life or health at risk. Others are turning to natural alternatives such as kratom, cannabis, turmeric and/or implementing various lifestyle changes into their daily regime... But the key is to never give up hope.
What will you do?
Warm regards to all who face life's challenges head on.

Hello friend....I found a great doctor and that's pretty much what he said. He said the first place I went to pretty much sounded like they were completely uneducated to subutex and suboxone. He said he thought they were just after the insurance and I agree. It appears I have a great Doc and I'm on the road to being PILL FREE. God is good.
And thank you for everything. It's been a pleasure chatting back and forth to you and we'll catch up here in the next 2 or 3 days. Oh Happy Days Ahead. Have a great evening. If this makes no sense I'm trying to cook dinner and bathe my granddaughter. LOL.
Have a good night.

Like you I was prescribed pain meds for getting wisdom teeth out and various other situations that were very painful and normally or should I say almost always I never even finished the prescriptions. My sister on the other hand takes all she can get her hands on but now she's on Suboxone and it's really helped her. Back in 2008 I became bedridden as my back got worse and worse. I was in tears. I couldn't even have a bowel movement because the pain was so great and became impacted. I finally was given hydrocodone for the pain and what a difference. I begin to be able to walk and do physical therapy. I still have the pain to this day as I have degenerative disc disease, herniated discs and arthritis throughout my whole body. Once in the last 10 years I was increased in strength to oxycodone because of the condition and the worsening of pain. I have never taken my meds other than the way they were prescribed for me. Throughout the day in between doses the last hour or two can be really bad but it it doesn't make me want to take extra. I don't happen to like the feeling of taking more then what I'm supposed to. I found that out when I had a surgery and they over-medicated me once. Also had a surgery back in the 80s from a ruptured liver and I asked him to please take me off the morphine drip I couldn't stand the feeling. I guess I'm lucky that way because it's not like that for someone who's addicted. I know my body is dependent upon these medications but I also know that that's different from being an addict. I hope with all of my heart that they get their heads on straight at the CDC and these legislators that grab their guidelines and ran with it making things into law and hurting pain patients to the point where people are committing suicide because their life is no longer worth living with torturous pain. I'm very fortunate that it hasn't affected me yet but I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop here in Wisconsin.
Re: Sabrina (# 1333)
Hi. U can ask your doctor for Clonidine and low dose of xanax to help with the withdrawal symptoms. I hear a lot of people also using kratom too. It works great for withdrawals and will help with your energy levels. Buy from a reputable vendor online and capsule the kratom powder yourself. Magnesium malate is also something good to take to. I get mine from the vitamin shop if u have one near u. If not, they have an online store to order from. Hope it goes well with you. Withdrawal symptoms are very painful and my heart goes out to you... Keep us updated. thx
Re: Margo (# 1344)
Margo, I have sent some sites for reputable vendors for kratom. I have not seen my reply to you yet so keep a look out. Also a chris on this page asked me to..u can look and see what I wrote them for now thx

Re: Davoe (# 1371)
I was thinking, that by the tine you are up and ready I either will not be home, By the time, I answer HOME IS WHERE we belong. And how many good cheers for those days.
I was told that there will be no more pain pills soon. Are they taking Norco off the market?
Re: BL (# 1395)
First of all you must stick to the facts. I always perform my research so that I do not harm myself or make it difficult for another victim to want to become involved. Had you read Elder Abuse and each state has there own statutes they are mostly cut and paste from the Federal regulations. Each individual that works in any medical facility could be arrested for handling the patient to aggressively, not feeding their patient correctly, pushing them out of their wheel chairs, stealing, punishing patients for wetting the bed. The facility is fined, usually the employee is terminated. My feelings for me wanting this doctor and some of his staff who also violated his patient contract will be made subject. The DEA and Department of Aging and licensing physicians and slapping their hand with a fine of up to $5,000. No further probation, to restitution, and this doctor by REDUCING THE MILOGRAMS knows that that amount will be not strong enough, but he was dying of cancer, no matter what the doctor was asked by the family to make their loved one more comfortable" After the gentlemen died the family sued the doctor, nurses, the nursing facility, any medical affiliation to contact the doctor they were not allowed. This is where you do not need money for a lawyer, you just have some evidence, i.e.., pictures to show the demise of how her body fell apart. People are now getting narcotics but not in the strength that would make the patient comfortable. This doctor blackmailed me into choosing either himself as my Pain Management Prescriptions writer or the doctor that I had been seeing for years. I did not find out until much later that the other doctor fired him and ego's went flying. I was terminated from the program, put me in the database that I had dirty U/A's. This confidential, contract, should have allowed her the appeal process. I have for over one and have years since I am not taking any pain medication accept Tramadol. That ego, exploiting the sick and vulnerability of others. You may ask your city police and read from a sheet of paper, so you would speak louder and slower. I will keep you all up to date or watch the CT TV Station. We are not pawns, YOU DOCS WORK FOR US. DR. SS, HE KNOWS PERFECTLY WELL WHO IS IN CHARGE.
Re: Laurag (# 1396)
There are various types of Elder Abuse. As for as a doctor decreasing or stopping your opiates. I can assure you. This does not rise to the legal definition of Elder Abuse. Did you submit a statement to be placed in your medical records about the u/a ? Under federal law you have a right to do this. No attorney or agency is going to believe this doctor blackmailed you. There are other doctors. There is no database for patients that test positive on u/a. If you have gone to other doctors, They got copies of your medical records. It is common for permission for a new doctor to get copies of your medical records. to be part of the new patient paperwork. Most patient do not read everything before they sign it.
Sometimes facilities, like nursing homes are fined. But the level has to rise to a certain point. Pictures alone of a patient.are not going to be enough to file a complaint of Elder Abuse. After seeing the pictures. The attorney or agency can obtain copies of the patients medical records. They can interview nursing home employees, residents and family. But a picture alone is not enough.

They have all of these statistics... they know the answers. Quite simply, we pain patients are being forced through hoops to be able to have our pain prescriptions restored to us. Meanwhile they are throwing money to the illegal drug abusers in the form of substitutes that are now being used as recreational, illegal drug use, while we are left out and n the rain with NO SUITABLE UMBRELLA. try Lorcet for over 2 decades job just to be able to put the pain away so I can manage normally, now on Tylenol 3... ha, ha... A responsible government would have had the stop gaps in place to leave legitimate pain patients alone, along with legitimate doctors BEFORE this is WAR ON OPIOIDS began. Then gone after the pill mill doctors and their patients. Nothing is going to change... we will never have our pain medications restored to the level that made our lives bearable. Especially if powers that be continue to let pharmacist override our doctor's prescriptions. There is no fix now... they are trying to put a bandaid on a hemmorage...
Re: KIMMAB (# 1430)
I am in the same boat as you. I have Spondylolisthesis, very serious cond./painful, spinal stenosis, scoliosis, arthritis, a fracture, and a cracked tailbone and all I get is 3 to 4 Norco per day. Been on same med and dose for 5 yrs. Well, I hope you're not getting that crap manufactured by Mallinckrodt but I bet you are, it's all that seems to exist today in the form of hydrocodone. My dr. even wrote for NORCO only and you know what Walgreens told me? They said they'd have to order it and it would take 7 to 8 mos. and that is IF they could get it. There is something going on with these pain meds, especially this hydrocodone made my Mallickrodt, it's pure trash! I believe they are only putting in about 1% of the actual pain medication in these vs. the full 10 mgs. Everyone used to get the yellow ones by Watson and they worked great. These Mallickrodts are like taking chalk, awful, they make you sick and give you a headache. I've taken up to 4 at one time and nothing, still couldn't move and in terrible pain. I used to go to a doctor in Dallas that was wonderful but he no longer would accept my ins. I don't know how far you are from Dallas, but it would be worth your drive. {edited for privacy}.
Re: cliff j (# 1426)
I was with the same Dr. for 18 years. I made a comment to something he said. My comment was... gee maybe I should find another Dr. He got pissed and said ok I'll write you a 30 day letter of separation.. it was a nightmare trying to find a new one, but I did., I didn't give up. I went to 5 places. Did a U/A and paid copays and office visits at each... The first place said they were getting out of the business and gave me the number to a drug addict clinic..the second said injection time... I was past that with my failed surgery. The list went on and on ..I didn't give up and told each one im looking for a Dr. that fits. I wasn't there for medication as I had just mailed out my 90 day RX. I'd like to know where everyone is at? I went back to my Dr. that referred me to my surgery Dr. (He's gone btw and nowhere to be found) but he steered me in the right direction.. this new dr.did offer Suboxone and I said..let me have some dignity. I feel pain before I feel the addiction crap. He agreed.
Re: Vintage Lady (# 1424)
My previous doctor (He retired at 82 yrs old) often prescribed methadone for my pain when it went beyond the vicodins capabilities. I feel it's a decent pain med and one that i tolerated well. they should give you what works for you.
Re: Hop (# 1437)
I was on Durogeic 100 for many years and tapered to 40mg Morphine/day by cutting 1mm strips off the patches. Make sure you do not have the patches with a reservoir or you could get an overdose. The adhesive type with the fentanyl in the adhesive are OK.
What can I do to get something to control my pain? What I get now doesn't come nowhere near close to making me able to function as a person having zero quality of life.
Re: C (# 1456)
Feel better now that you've gotten your anti Trump/Ivanka off your chest? I have chronic lower back pain from an accident with my clothes dryer L-4 L-5 over 2 years ago. I guess it always helps to blame someone. I believe this is all about illegal drugs coming into the USA. Not to stop your Doctor from prescribing your pain meds. Discuss with him/her why don't you?
Re: C (# 1456)
Blaming this on President Trump is stupid. No matter who is appointed. This whole opioid thing started under obamler.
Re: C (# 1463)
What I hate is you trying to turn what should be a medical chat room into your personal political forum. I did post Argentina and should have posted Venezuela. My mistake. Now that you have ranted about Ivanka say, WITH SPECIFICITY, exactly what, if anything she has done to impede any progress in the pain pill field. (NOT just your OPINION but FACTS. No spin.) As long as you post nonsense you will get nonsense back. I will vote for President Trump AGAIN in 2020 as the demonRATS have not presented what they would do to make my life better. Only saying President Trump is bad.
