Arthrotec And Sulfa Allergy
(Newest replies first)

Updated

Until Dec 2016 I have been taking Arthrotec for years and never had a problem. Walmart will not take my plan D Envision RX Plus and so I switched to Walgreens which will. I am allergic to sulfa, sulfite, etc. and when I got Walgreens Arthrotec I got sick and had a blood clot. I ended up on Coumadin for probably the rest of my life and the doctor does not want me to take Arthrotec. Does Walgreens get their Arthrotec from Canada or some place that has a filler with sulfa? Arthrotec has worked for the pain of osteoarthritis and I do not want to have to go in the hospital again or give up the Arthrotec. They have told me to use Tylenol but it is useless.

It helps me quite a bit that I go to a small neighborhood and family owned pharmacy. My best example of needing the pharmacist's help was with Fiorinal when the manufacturer changed the formula. That's when he looked on the pharmacy computer, for any USA source to get the old formula. He took the time to explain to me what happened with this medicine. He couldn't get the old formula, but I knew how much he tried to.

Yes, the neighborhood pharmacy may be a little more expensive (a lot of the time their not) but you get advocacy with the big pharmaceuticals and choice. The owner does the ordering and can special order from another source without an attitude. To Barb, Fiona and Roy...If the big chain pharmacy gives you a sense they don't have the time...you don't either. Go to a smaller pharmacy if you can.

Hi! First of all DEB: great! And again great advice!! I just stumbled across this post! I take certain medication and when I picked it up at cvs I noticed a change in color from month to month...I felt like one worked better than the other (and kinda thought it was in my head) however when I asked my doctor she replied that different manufactures make this SAME MEDICATION very differently!! And bc I have no insure cvs fills the cheapest version. But if I want to have the best meds I save one of the original pills and show it to the pharmacist! And tell them to fill with this certain pill. And sadly pay from pocket.

So I noticed that he got kinda ticked off that I asked for a certain one...and at first I was thinking someone is having a bad day, however the next time I asked for the same meds he was outraged! I was shocked! I was like what, do u have stock in this crap...lmao...

But bottom line, to the person that needs answers... If you can afford to purchase the pill from pocket, do so. Ask for a discount card or coupons of any sort...OR ask for a week's worth until their stock runs dry and you get your meds at a sensible price. It is worth it! Bc it works for you! And yes you CAN b**** and complain bc it's costly (print this out and show to friends and family bc you have the right!?) YOU have every right!! You deserve to feel good and healthy and a pharmacy rep shouldn't deny you access! This pharmaceutical conundrum is killing us softly and saving us by the hair of their chiny chin chins!...idk....but I def feel your troubles and wish I had all the answers n advice you needed...but I don't! SOMEONE HAS THE ANSWER. IF IT IS A MAN MADE PRODUCT THAT IS BEING CONSUMED, THEN THE CONSUMER DESERVES EXPLANATIONS AT ANY COST $$$ AND THE COST OF THE ARTIST THEY USE TO PAINT THIS GRANDE FACADE THAT EVERYTHING IS GOING TO BE ALRIGHT NEEDS TO BE PUT IN THE WITNESS PROTECTION PROGRAM.

Bottom line buy what works for you! Write letter after letter as to why it works better and also email after email...don't stop! Get answers! This is your body! NOT THEIR BODY, just their corporate jet and payroll they care for!!! Good luck.

Would you happen to have your prescription label handy? If so, could you post back with the NDC code and/or manufacturer name displayed on it (or at the very least the color and imprint on the tablets)? With that information it should be possible to look up the inactive ingredients to see what the fillers are.

Hello Barb, I realize it's been one month since you asked this question and I don't have a direct answer for you. What I will suggest is that you talk to the Walgreen pharmacist to find out where they get this medicine and what is in it. They should be willing to tell you, especially when you had that kind of reaction. Also, have you thought of just buying the medicine from Walmart without insurance? It might be reasonably priced...probably not, but it's worth asking.
